Fitness Challenge and the Paleo Diet
So today marks the beginning of a fitness challenge with some friends. I was originally planning to try the paleo diet with the fitness challenge. The paleo diet, also known as the primal or “caveman” diet, eliminates grains and processed foods from your diet. The idea is that our bodies are more adapted to being hunter/gatherers than to an agricultural diet (here’s cool article on Nerdfitness.com)
I tested it last week and ran into a problem: I don’t think I was eating enough. I’m not used to eating so much meat and veggies. Paired with weight training, I feel like I wasn’t getting enough calories. I dropped four pounds in less than a week. Grains typically make you retain water, so a lot of that was me shedding water weight but it bothered me nonetheless. So I’m planning to ease my way into the paleo diet, incorporating a few grains here and there until my kitchen is fully stocked with meat and such. I admit, eating all the vegetables and meat was fun…Mmmm, blood.
I’m going to be using fitocracy to track my workouts. Follow me if you have it, join if you don’t.
