Thrown by Domenick (Boy in the Rain)
I was inspired by a letter written by Frank Ocean, who I really respect and admire, and I wanted to write a song for him. Was thinking of making a piano version of Thinking of You, butdecided to write an original first. I really wanted to capture the moments that Frank describes as being thrown from a plane, being thrown from a cliff - where he confesses his love but his friend couldn’t reciprocate - that feeling beyond the pain of rejection but of loss and sadness, falling from the strength he used to admit he was in love with this man only to be struck with the inevitable realization that, in the reality these two people lived in, there was no way this man could leave his girlfriend for him. It’s gotta be one of the saddest and most touching writing I’ve read in a very long time. And so I wrote this song.
